Family Support

The Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD) Family Support Program is designed to assist individuals with a severe or developmental disability and their families to remain together in their homes and communities. Family Support is funded by state dollars.

How Can Family Support Help?

Services can include, but are not limited to: Respite care, Personal assistance services, Before/After Care, Homemaker services, Minor home modifications and vehicular modifications, Specialized equipment maintenance and repair, Specialized nutrition clothing and supplies, Transportation services, Health-related costs not otherwise covered, Licensed nursing and nurses aid services, Family counseling training and support groups, Recreation/Summer camp, Behavior therapy


Supported Employment

Supported Employment is a paid employment for persons whom competitive employment at or above minimum wage is unlikely or that need intensive ongoing support and/or continuous supervision to preform in a work setting. Follow along services are provided when on-going support and training are needed to enable the person to maintain employment. Also other possible services included for supportive employment are transportation, personal care services and counseling to families.

Day Habilitation

Day Habilitation includes a variety of available services, which are implemented either individually or in various combinations to assist people with reaching their desired level of community integration, developing or improving the skills necessary to gain and maintain employment, access therapeutic devices and equipment necessary to maintain or improve mobility and other various physical abilities, and participating in individual or group activities to promote social integration


Person Assistance

Personal Assistance serves the person by direct assistance with activities of daily living and household chores such as bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, eating, meal preparation, budget management, and medication administration.  Personal Assistance may be performed in the community settings to support the person’s appointments, shopping and leisure time, etc.


Supported Living/Community Living Support 

Supported/Community Living Support is individually tailored services and supports that enable a person to live in his or her own home.  The type and intensity of support may vary widely depending upon the person's individual needs and abilities.  Support can be a couple of hours to 24 hours per day.
