Appalachian Industries:
Coordination with the Local School
Systems: Is available to special education students
when appropriate and beneficial to their program plan and
continuing education. In all cases, school participants must be
referred by the appropriate "education plan" committee.

Counseling / Advisory/Developmental
Planning Services: Are available and utilize
assessment data. When appropriate a physical exam, visual exam,
nutritional assessment, and/or vocational interest inventory may
be utilized in designing a developmental plan. For clients
involved in longer training periods, some assessments may be
updated at least annually.

Day Habilitation and Care:
Provides meaningful employment for citizens with a wide range of
disabilities. When appropriate, other services are available
such as special transportation to and from work, doctor's
appointments, and other desired activities; PT, OT, and SLP
therapy services; choir/music lessons; special meals, diets,
preparation, and feeding; commensurate earnings supplemental to
entitlements; opportunity to stay involved in the community,
develop and maintain positive social skills, and develop
relationships that will last a lifetime; etc.
Day Hab hours are
Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.

 | Vocational Adjustment
- Stresses promptness, dependability, job appreciation,
socially acceptable behavior and attitude, and universally
desirable work habits and practices. Training utilizes
production contracts in a vocational setting and trainee/
employees earn while they learn. Compensation encourages
development and preservation of vocational skills.

Enrollment:
And cost are directly dependant on the acquisition of
required assessments, evaluations, historical records, the speed
with which they were accomplished, and vacancies at Scott
Appalachian Industries. Primary responsibility for follow
through is that of the applicant and if done properly, there
should be little, if any, out of pocket expense to the
applicant.

Home Services:

Family Support:
Support is
funded by state dollars and designed to assist
individuals with severe disabilities and their families to remain together in
their homes and communities. Services can include but are not limited to: day
care/services, respite care, home and
vehicular modifications, specialized equipment,
specialized nutrition/clothing/supplies, personal assistance, transportation, homemaker
services, housing costs, health related needs, nursing/nurse's aid, family counseling,
recreation/summer camp, training, etc.

Home
Access Program: The program pas developed
to provide wheelchair ramps for home access to people who have mobility needs, limited
income, and whose homes lack the appropriate accessibility. This project
provides only supplies and all labor is performed by volunteers.

National Family Caregivers Support: Provides
in-home and community based respite services to family caregivers along with
information, referral, limited counseling services, and in-home caregiver
training services. Funding is made available through Federal Older
American Act and State of Tennessee.

Options
for Community Living: Assists individuals with
functional limitations remain independent at home through the provision of a
variety of supportive in-home
services such as information, referral, case management, home delivered meals,
homemaker, and personal care.

Personal
Assistance/ Independent Living Assistance: Serves the individual by direct assistance with
activities of daily living and household chores such as bathing, dressing,
personal hygiene, eating, meal preparation, budget management, and
medication administration. Assistance may
be performed in the community
settings to support the individual's appointments, shopping and leisure time.

Employment: Paid employment for persons whom
competitive employment at or above minimum wage is unlikely and because off
their disabilities, need intensive ongoing support and/or continuous
supervision to perform in a work setting.

Living/ Assisted Living: Individually tailored services and supports that enable an individual to live in his or her
own home. The type and intensity of support may vary widely depending on the
individual's unique needs and abilities. Support can be a couple of hours to 24
hours per day.

Job Development /
Job Placement: Service is designed to asset employers
in meeting their employment needs, as well as assisting people
with challenges to gain and maintain employment. Employment
services are free to both the employer and the consumer. Our
goal is to match employer needs with the consumers ability in
order to develop a mutually beneficial relationship with
enhanced probability of success.

Meals:
are provided to all employees.
Program participates may refuse the "free meals" (breakfast and
lunch) if they choose, but Scott Appalachian Industries will not
furnish an alternate to planned daily menus that meet guidelines
provided by the USFDA.

Nursing: Nurses are available 24
hours a day with special training on individuals with
developmental disabilities. Skilled services provided include
Oxygen therapy, internal feedings, medication management,
nursing assessments, and seizure management to name a few.

transportation is provided free of charge for those who qualify.

Supplemental Earnings, "Earn while you Learn" :
The agency does a variety of jobs which
help to support the purpose and mission of the overall program
while providing work adjustment, work evaluation, vocation
training, and "meaningful day." There is therapy in work.
Scott Appalachian Industries is always
looking for work to subcontract from industry. Quality of work
is guaranteed and references can be provided upon request. Our
facility also offers a source of storage of contract goods and
possesses excellent material handling capability.
Scott
Appalachian Industries is an habilitation/
therapeutic work center and exists for the purpose of providing
respite, therapy, and vocational experience for citizens with
disabilities rather than just a job. However, useful and
salable goods are produced and utilized in this process and a
commensurate wage is paid as a consequence.
By commensurate
we mean that peace-rate-wages, established by means of a
time study of all contracts, is paid. This means that
Scott Appalachian Industries is not
required to place unrealistic performance demands on
participants but rather encourages them to reach maximum
potential while remaining in a growing, developing, meaningful
activity daily.

training, etc.

LE (Lower Extremities) exercises, re-positioning,
community participation, balance training, aqua-therapy,
physical management, mobility, staff education/
training, home assessments, recommendations on w/c and

Training or
Job Coaching: When applicable, and Scott
Appalachian Industries staff member is provided to work
along side the trainee until the employer's work
expectations are met, with no cost to the employer, (4)
Follow- Along Services: include bi-monthly visits,
assistance when needed, and support for as long as
necessary.
